Planning a Wedding in a Social Media World

Homemade Wedding Sign DIY

There are something things that have changed and some that havent, but that can be said for just about anything.  Planning a wedding in this day and age… a lot has changed.  Using social media and various tools that can “plug-in” to your on-line life, are a Godsend.  Mashable has some great ideas and tools to use in your endeavors.  Among the list, I second the following….

WordPress.com – for all your blogging needs.  Use your blog as the hub of all those “spokes” that follow.

Twitter - Create a specfic account designed to just spread updates to all those that wish to follow.

-  After you set up Twitter, link that new account to your personal Facebook page and/or create a Facebook Event Page.  So your Facebook status is updated, too.

-  Use sites like WeddingWire to find vendors and read reviews.  If you have an iPhone, install their free app.

-  Use MyRegistry to link to hundreds of other registry.  Its one stop shopping.  Dont forget to link to it on your blog, too.

-  Using BackPack from 37Signals is a great idea.  See some examples from a Google Search here.  I use 37Signals’ HighRise application to keep track of my clients, conversations and files.  Cant imagine life without it.

-  Though not mentioned in the article, I recommend ReQall over Remember the Milk.  Both have apps for more than just iPhones and can be used without a smartphone all together.

- One thing I DO NOT recommend is going the iTunes DJ route.  I have been to LOTS of weddings and a good DJ can make or break the event.  Just the emcee part is critical and can bring me to tears or give me goods bumps.  That takes skill, my friends!  Hire a DJ… its the way to go.

Anyway, I am sure there are more tools out there to help and I am happy to add them to the blog.  Just add a comment and help our your fellow brides and grooms!!
